Commonly Asked OCS Admission Questions

  1. How much will it cost?

    The Family Enrollment Fee of $300 is due at application.  Tuition varies based on the age and number of children per family; this can be paid annually or in monthly installments.  For more specific financial information, please contact Student Billing.

  2. Do you have any type of extended care program?

    We have an after-school program available for Pre-K thru 8th grade.  The cost is $5 a day or $20 a week (which is added to your bill).  This program works on an ‘as  needed’ basis.

  3. What curriculum do you use?

    In elementary we use some of the Abeka curriculum. We generally supplement a variety of texts to support our college-prep curriculum throughout all grade levels.

  4. Do I have to be a member of a certain church for my children to attend OCS?

    No, OCS families represent a wide variety of churches across Northeast LA.

  5. Do you have a Special Education program?

    No, we do not have the resources to assist those with major learning disabilities.  We do have a tutoring program called SOAR that is designed for students with clinically diagnosed mild learning disabilities.

  6. When do athletics start, at what grade?

    Most sports begin under the direction of a school coach in the 7th grade. However, many OCS students compete together on teams in various leagues across the community.

  7. What is your sports classification? 

    We compete in the 1A class of LHSAA.

  8. Can my child play sports immediately once we enroll?

    In accordance with the LHSAA, new students must either live in our school zone or attend school for one calendar year before participating in a JV or Varsity game.

  9. What foreign languages do you offer?

    Students may take Spanish or French.

    9th

  11. Do you have a bus?

    Yes, there are four bus routes that service a limited area (Monroe, West Monroe, Farmerville, and Bastrop).

  12. What is your Student to Teacher ratio?

    Approximately 15:1; we try not to exceed 20 per classroom.

  13. What is the average class size?

    There are from 15-20 students per section and between 45-75 per grade

  14. What percentage of your teachers have Advanced Degrees?

    32%

  15. How many students are enrolled in OCS?

    We average around 760 students in Pre-K thru 12th.  We are the largest private school in Northeast Louisiana.

  16. What is taught in Bible classes?  How often is Bible?

    Bible classes consist of Bible scripture and Bible knowledge. (No doctrine is taught.) Elementary students go to Bible class twice a week, and 6th –12th grade has Bible daily. In addition, weekly chapel services are held.

  17. What co-curricular or extra-curricular activities do you offer?

    Athletics (Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Track, Weight Training, Golf), Art, Band, Drama

  18. Are you accredited?

    Yes, we are fully accredited by the State of Louisiana and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

  19. How do teachers communicate with the parents…and vice versa?

    Face to face Parent/Teacher communication is a high priority in all grades. However, ongoing feedback is handled differently depending on the age level.

    Elementary students bring home weekly updates and have regularly scheduled parent/teacher conferences.

    4th-12th grades utilize Edline, an online service that allows parents access to lesson plans, homework, and current grades.

    An emailed weekly newsletter, @OCS, was introduced during the fall of 2004 to help increase the level of communication between the school and parents to keep them more informed about activities and successes at OCS.  This newsletter is sent from the development office via email.  To be included on the distribution list, please send a request to bdeaton@ocs.org.

  20. What is the P.I.T. crew?

    The Parent Involvement Team’s purpose is to involve, inform, and initiate.  Families that want to be involved meet monthly to cheer and support the school and to keep up-to-date on newsworthy accomplishments of our students, staff and families. This is also a time to initiate solutions to the needs of the school that could benefit from the time and talents of parents.
