OCS fields both boys and girls varsity soccer teams. For the past five
consecutive seasons, both teams have qualified for the state playoffs,
with the girls team claiming two district championships during this time.
Over the past three seasons, The OCS boys and girls soccer teams have earned
the NSCAA Team Academic Award for exemplary performance in the classroom.
To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average
of at least 3.25 for the entire academic year.
Both the boys and girls soccer teams complete in District 2 of Division III
in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.
Bruce Deaton is the head soccer coach for both teams.
Coach
Deaton is a former player and assistant coach at Marshall University in
Huntington, West Virginia, where he earned both his bachelors and masters
degrees. He is the director of development at Ouachita Christian
School.
Coach Deaton holds a
United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National "B" License,
as well as a Regional
Diploma
and a
Goalkeeper Level I and
Level II Diplomas from the
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)
Coach Deaton was selected as the
2007 state and regional girls coach of the year for
Private/Parochial schools by the
NSCAA. He is a member of the Louisiana ODP State Coaching
staff (1994 Girls) and is one of the coaching directors for the Northeast
Louisiana Soccer Association
