Frequently Asked Questions

How much will it cost?

The Family Enrollment Fee of $350 is due at application. Tuition varies based on the grade level and number of children per family; this can be paid annually or in monthly installments. Other fees also are required. For more specific financial information, view the Financial Information page or contact Student Billing.

Do you have any type of extended care program for children?

An after-school program is available for children in Pre-K thru 8th grade. The cost is $5 a day or $20 a week, added to the student's monthly billing. 

What curriculum do you use?

In elementary we use some of the Abeka curriculum. We generally supplement a variety of texts to support our college-prep curriculum throughout all grade levels. The entirety of our curriculum across all grades is based in a Biblical worldview. 

Do I have to be a member of a certain church for my children to attend OCS?

No! OCS families represent a wide variety of Christian faith beliefs and represent churches across Northeast Louisiana.

Do you have a Special Education program?

No, we do not have the resources to assist those with major learning disabilities. We have a tutoring program called SOAR that is designed for students with clinically diagnosed mild learning disabilities.

At what grade are students eligible to participate in school athletic teams? 

Most sports begin under the direction of a school coach in the 7th grade. However, many OCS students compete together on teams in various leagues across the community.

What is your sports classification?

As a member of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, we compete in Class 1-A, District 2, and in the select schools' championship Division IV in football, basketball, and softball. 

Can my child play sports immediately once we enroll?

In accordance with  LHSAA regulations, new students must either live in our school zone or attend school for one calendar year before participating in a JV or Varsity game. For more information, contact the Athletic Director at 318.325.6000.

What foreign languages do you offer?

Students may take Spanish and II or French I and II.

In which grade does a student begin taking foreign language courses?

A student may begin taking foreign language courses as early as ninth grade.

Do you have bus service?

Yes, three bus routes service a limited area--Monroe, West Monroe, and Bastrop--in the morning and afternoon.

What is your student-teacher ratio?

 Approximately 15:1; we try not to exceed 20 per classroom.

What is the average class size?

There are from 15-20 students per class section and an average of approximately 50 students per grade.

What percentage of your teachers has advanced degrees?

How many students are enrolled in OCS?

We average around 735 students in Pre-K through 12th and are the largest private school in northeast Louisiana.

What is taught in Bible classes? How often are Bible classes?

 Bible classes consist of Bible scripture and Bible knowledge. (No doctrine is taught.) Elementary students go to Bible class twice a week, and 6th –12th grade attends Bible class daily. In addition, weekly chapel services are held.

What co-curricular or extra-curricular activities do you offer?

Clubs and organizations include Art Club, Band, Cheer, Choir, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Foreign Language Club and National Honor Society, The athletics program includes teams in Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Track and Field, and Wrestling. 

Are you accredited?

Yes, we are fully approved by the State of Louisiana and accredited by both AdvancED (formerly Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) and the National Christian Schools Association.

How do teachers communicate with the parents…and vice versa?

Communication is a high priority in all grades. However, ongoing feedback is handled differently depending on the age level. Elementary students bring home weekly updates.

 

Fourth-12th grades utilize PlusPortals, an online service that allows parents access to current grades. A weekly email newsletter, This Week @ OCS, updates parents regularly about activities, events, and awards. 

What is the P.I.T. crew?

The Parent Involvement Team’s purpose is to involve, inform, and initiate. Families that want to be involved meet monthly to cheer and support the school and to keep up-to-date on newsworthy accomplishments of our students, staff and families. This is also a time to initiate solutions to the needs of the school that could benefit from the time and talents of parents.
