The Louisiana High School Athletic Association softball playoff brackets were released Thursday with the Northeastern Louisiana region well represented at the top.
Class B No. 1-seed Quitman is the area’s lone top seed, but Class 5A defending state champion Ouachita is No. 4 in 5A, West Ouachita is No. 3 in Class 4A and Neville is the No. 8 seed in 4A.
No.22 Bastrop goes on the road to No. 11 Plaquemine and No. 23 Franklin Parish will travel to No. 10 Academy of Our Lady in 4A.
Two of the top three teams in Class 1A reside in Northeastern Louisiana. No. 2 Mangham and No. 3 Cedar Creek join No. 11 Ouachita Christian and No. 18 Delhi Charter in a loaded 1A bracket.
Weston took the No. 3-seed in Class B along with No. 7 Choudrant, No. 8 Forest and No. 21 Simsboro.
Epps is No. 16 in Class C along with Claiborne Christian (No. 9), No. 10 Downsville, No. 15 Kilbourne.
Ruston joins Ouachita in the Class 5A bracket as the No. 26-seed. Ouachita will host No. 29 Dominican in the first-round. Ruston will travel to No. 7 Dutchtown.
“When it is playoff time you happy to be in it,” Ouachita coach Tim Whitman said. “You never take it for granted. It is a lot of good teams in the playoffs. We reached our first goal of winning district. Now second goal is get to Sulphur (state tournament), but it is a tough road to do it with.”
Caldwell is the highest seed of the local Class 3A teams at No. 15. The Lady Spartans will host No. 18 Buckeye.
No. 21 Rayville will head to No. 12 Jewel Sumner in the first-round.
Sterlington squeezed into the postseason as the No. 32-seed in 2A. The Lady Panthers will travel to Shreveport to take on No. 1 Calvary Baptist.
No. 18 Oak Grove hits the road to No. 15 Fisher in the first-round.
Mangham begins their quest for the Class 1A championship at home against No. 31 White Castle. No. 3 Cedar Creek will host No. 30 East Beauregard.
No. 22 Metairie Park-Country Day comes to No. 11 OCS in the first-round and No. 18 Delhi Charter travels to No. 15 Houma Christian.
Quitman earned a first-round bye as the top seed.
No. 30 Bell City comes to No. 3 Weston, No. 7 Choudrant hosts No. 26 Saline, No. 8 Forest hosts No. 25 Hicks, and No. 21 Simsboro travels to No. 12 Glenmora.
Epps will travel to Class C top-seed Hackberry and Claiborne Christian goes to No. 8 Ebarb.
No. 10 Downsville will visit No. 7 Georgetown and No. 15 Kilbourne rounds out the softball playoff action at No. 2 St. Joseph’s-Plauchville.
