The Ouachita Christian School boys golf team is district champions. The Eagles held off all comers at the district championships on Wednesday. The district title is the first for the Eagles in the five-year tenure of current head coach Brandon McQuillen.
"Garrett (Dolecheck) finished strong," McQuillen said. "A lot of our guys kind of got of to a slow start, but they hung in there and were able to keep their scores where it needed to be."
OCS had a team score of 340, St. Frederick's was second with 349, Cedar Creek was third with 364.
Dolecheck carded a 74 to win the overall tournament.
Grayson Gilbert of St. Frederick's shot 79 for second-place. Johnny Maxwell of Cedar Creek carded an 81 for third-place overall. Jack Wier of St. Frederick's finished fourth-place with an 82. Tying Wier with an 82 was Brandon Chapman of Family Community Christian.
Other scores from OCS were Michael Forte (86), Andrew Moore (87), Matt Pender (93), Sylvan Starnes (102). Scores from
St. Frederick's included: Brandon Tramontana (96) and John O'Leary (92), and Seth Wiley (100).
Other scores from Cedar Creek included: Zack Pickett (85), Jacob Brown (95), Eli Brown (109) and Thomas Patterson (103).
Scores from Weston High School included: Dawson Tolar (90) and Hunter Tolar (110).
Regional championships will be at the Alexandria Country Club next Wednesday.
McQuillen said his team must make sure they bring a solid short game to Alexandria.
"It is not a hilly course like we just played, but your chipping and putting has to be on," McQuillen said. "It is a good course for us to score good on."
Those advancing to the state tournament will compete at The Wetlands Golf Course in Lafayette on May 4-5. The Division I and III state championship will be at The Farm D'Allie in Lafayette also on May 4-5.
