Blue Out Day

September 8, 2015

Our official colors are forest green and Vegas gold. These colors run deep, with many of us claiming that we "bleed green & gold." However, there is the rare occasion where school spirit and loyalty can be transcended by the human condition. This past Friday was one such moment; therefore, as we continue to prayerfully lift those most greatly impacted by the tragedy in Franklin Parish, we are joining with other student bodies in northeast Louisiana in declaring this Friday, September 11th, as BLUE OUT DAY.

Fridays during the fall are usually Spirit Days. This Friday's theme was originally going to be Superhero Day, and would have been limited to high schoolers. But we want to encourage ALL of the Eagle Family, from Pre-K through Seniors, faculty & staff, parents & alumni, to all WEAR BLUE that day. In keeping with plans for honoring and remembrance of 9/11, our pep rally that day will keep its red, white, & blue theme.

Please wear BLUE to Eagle Stadium that evening, as well. We can still yell just as loud and support our Ouachita Christian Football Team while giving honor to a fallen fellow student athlete.

We do this in memory of FPHS player Tyrell Cameron, in support of his teammates and coaches, and all of the Patriot Family. We do this also to support the Sterlington High School player involved in the play that resulted in the accident, his Panther teammates and coaches, and the entire SHS Family, as well.

To also honor Tyrell's memory all Eagle Varsity Players will wear a commemorative decal on their helmets for the balance of the season.

In addition, we will be joining Sterlington High School in collecting funds to pass along to the family to assist with immediate funeral and burial expenses. There has been a Go Fund Me site set up by folks in Franklin Parish, but some of those monies might not be available for some time. So, following the leadership of our neightbors just to the north, OCS will be receiving funds that will be delivered to Sterlington High School on Thursday afternoon. You can donate through the front office or administrative office here at OCS through 3:00PM this Thursday, September 10th. Please make your check payable to OCS. A representative fron Sterlington will deliver the funds to the family at Friday's planned memorial service. Questions? Contact Eddie Enlow at eddie.enlow@ocs.org or (318) 325-6000x227.

I close most posts with the phrase, "We are OCS." Being an Eagle is to live as encouraged in 2 Corinthians 3:18, "reflecting the glory of God in all we say and do." It is more than being an alumni or stakeholder. It is embedded in your soul. It is what we mean when we say "I am OCS."

Be mindful of these this week. WEAR BLUE ON FRIDAY. Hug your loved ones a little tighter. Thank God for all of our blessings.

We are OCS.
