Bethany Christian Flood Relief

August 29, 2016

As many of you know the flood damage in Baton Rouge is enormous and lifechanging. The picture above is the gym of Bethany Christian Academy in Baker. Members of the Barbe baseball teams are helping with the cleanup of the gym. One of our new teachers, Carolyn Desalvo, was the principal at Bethany for the last 18 years. I asked her if she could find out what the school needed. She said everything. I can’t even conceive of OCS losing all of its

material possessions that we have garnered over the years from parental/teacher support. It breaks my heart for the teachers especially losing their life’s work materials.

I have contacted educational sources that we purchase from and have asked for their help. They are willing to give educational supplies at a discounted rate for Bethany. We will be able to purchase teacher supplies such as bulletin

boards, white boards, borders for the boards, math manipulatives, art supplies, copy paper, and science lab equipment, just to mention a few of the supplies needed. We will continue to stay in contact with Bethany Christian as other needs arise during their rebuilding phase.

Our theme this year is “SAME SPIRIT”. Bethany Christian has the same spirit we have which is to educate students for time and eternity. At this time, they need us! As the family of OCS, I would like to help knock down their challenges and help them get on their feet again. I am asking for monetary donations, instead of specific items. I think cash will go further in bulk

purchasing. If each student gave $5.00, we could raise over $4,000 to help Bethany Christian. Some will be able to give this amount; others may be able to give more. I know we have our annual fundraising event going on as I type this plea. However, I would like to challenge all of us to raise $10,000 dollars for Bethany. Will you help? If so, send your check to my office and put Bethany Christian on the Memo line.

In his spirit,

Bobby Stokes
