Mission

The mission of the OCS Counseling Department, and the CollegePrep@OCS program, is grounded in Jeremiah 29:11: “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.’”

We believe that each of our students is created in the image of God and that our role is guiding them to discover their talents and skills to serve the Kingdom of God. We believe that each of our students is capable of learning, and we endeavor to provide the environment for them to achieve their best. 

We know that after graduating from OCS, 99% of our students attend college; most of these at a 4-year university; but also at 2-year colleges or in the military.

We believe that “COLLEGE” is a bigger word than our students comprehend. Our definition of “COLLEGE” includes any post-secondary education, including 4-year universities, 2-year junior/community college, technical colleges, and the military, either as a career or as a stepping-stone to college.

Our Program

Flowing from this mission, CollegePrep@OCS reaches students in grades 7-12 with a variety of instructional methods to help students discover their talents and skills and determine their best pathway after high school graduation.  

Through a series of in-class seminars, small groups, and one-on-one interviews integrated with Google Classroom and educational experiences such as college fairs and campus tours, students incorporate their own academic information and results from career exploration experiences eventually to select and apply to colleges, investigate financial aid, and prepare for their first college term.
